Lille France
Lille, France was named as the 2004 Culture Capital for Europe. Because of this, the city chose to spend considerable amounts of money
improving the cultural attractions that it has to offer.
Of all of the cities to be found in Northern France this is the largest one of them all and to get to it from the UK is very easy. All
one needs to do is hop on the Eurostar from London St Pancras International Station and with the new high-speed trains in operation
you are there 1 hour and 20 minutes later.
On arrival in this city, a visitor will be astounded by the beautiful but impressive architecture of many of the cities buildings. Plus
a considerable amount of money has been spent on restore the Vieux Lille (Old Quarter) of the city tastefully.
Along with something fantastic restaurants in this city, there is plenty to keep you amused whilst you stay whether for one or several
days. There are the museums, including the Palais des Beaux-Arts, which is said to be the second best art museum in France after the Louvre
in Paris.
Inside its walls, which have also been beautifully restored, you will works by the likes of Monet, Goya, Van Gogh, Rubens, Renoir and of
course Toulouse-Lautrec. Plus there are also some of the greatest works produced by Renaissance artistes Raphael and Donatello.
However, if you are looking for something a little more exciting to do during your stay in Lille, France it has a superb nightlife also.
This has grown out of the time back in 2004 when it was the Culture Capital of Europe.
