Visit the World Famous Bruges Christmas Markets

The Bruges Christmas Market is an annual event that takes place in the Belgian medieval city of Burges during the season of Advent from November 24 to December 31. There is no admission charge to this event in Market Square. The market is open daily from 11 in the morning until 6 in the evening. The only days it is not open are on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, when of course it is closed for the year.
The numerous stalls of the Christmas market are decorated with Christmas lights.

Here you can purchase Belgian chocolate goodies, clothing, candles and handmade crafts, many of which are very unusual. Spend the whole day shopping and dine at one of the many restaurants and cafes, as well as stalls selling fast food items, such as steak and chips. At the end of the day you can relax and unwind with a drink in one of the many bars.

As the world's best Christmas market, Belgium's city ofBruges draws shoppers from all over Belgium as well as from neighboring countries. The Eurostar from London to Bruges is particularly busy at this time of the year. Since trains from all the major cities of Belgium run to the station in Bruges, you can easily take a Bruges day trip for shopping or sightseeing at this market.

The Christmas market in Bruges will include an ice-skating rink for the 2008-2009 shopping season. The cost is quite reasonable – 6 Euros without skates and 4 Euros if you bring your own skates. The rink will be open later than the market, closing at 7:30 each evening. So when you have finished your shopping, take a refreshing skate to clear your mind or help you make up your mind about what you want to buy on the following day. The rink will remain open at Market Square until January 9, 2009.

Shoppers love the Christmas market because of the leisurely shopping experience it affords. You can browse the stalls as slowly or as quickly as you please. The scenery around the square is also fantastic and will likely take up some of your time as you gaze around in awe.  A Bruges day trip during the month of December is an excellent idea for a break from the humdrum of getting ready for Christmas. If you are not in the Christmas spirit, you certainly will be when you leave laden down with unique gifts for your family and friends.
