Things to do in Lille
Since becoming the Culture Capital of Europe in 2004 there are plenty things to do in Lille now. You can spend time wandering around its
ancient streets and look at all the splendid architecture that the city has to offer. Nevertheless, there are plenty of museums and other
places of interest that you can visit during your time in this city.
One popular museum to visit is the Charles-de-Gaulle's Museum, which contains various items that use to belong to the President of
France. There is the Citroen Car, which was used in 1962 by those who tried to assassinate him.
However, if you are someone who is after a little more culture then why not visit either Le Musee d'Art Moderne or Musee des Beaux-Arts.
Both of which house fine collections of works by some of the world's most renowned artistes.
But for those who happen to enjoy something a little sweet then why not take time out to visit La Confiserie Meert (The Confectionary).
This is the oldest sweet shop to be found in Lille and sells every time of confectionary that one could imagine.
For those of you are interested in the cities history then why not take the metro out to Lille Citadelle. This 17th century
fortification which is star shaped is on the edge of the city and is surrounded by 50 hectares of woodland and parks. But in order to view
the fortification itself because it is still occupied by the French Army you can only gain access to this area by taking part in one of the
guided tours arranged by the Lille Tourist Office.
